It was recently tuned up with a spark plug change, carburetor cleaning, and lube. The motor is very light and weighs in at around 40lbs. Runs great, starts on the first pull and has yet to let me down.

Right.I start the engine with the choke on(engine cold),it will run OK then i slowly take the choke off and it will run OK then i stick it in gear and it stops or it runs for a while and then stops,I start it again with the choke on(if i dont put the choke on it wont start at all) it will then run,so i take the choke off again and im back to were i was.so-in short it will start with the choke on even if its warmed up (due to the short running times) it will not run in gear for very long, i have tried it out of gear and it still runs lumpy(and also not for very long before it dies).Bloody hell im confusing meself here.Ive also noticed that if i rev the engine(out of gear)it sounds like its gasping for air and cannot rev. What i mean is i have to use the choke even after it has run-several times -that is coz it wont run very long-if ya know what i mean.
